Report From Cllr Mary Walsh – November 2024

Report received from Cllr Mary Walsh for the meeting – 11 November 2024
The Non-Material Amendment (NMA) did not require approval in the way a planning application does, so comments are not sought from residents or the PC.  I have also just heard that work commenced yesterday.
I had been contacted by a resident in Church Road in relation to the latest accident involving parked cars – and a lady had been injured.  As a result, I had asked if police  were going to attend the next meeting so those residents affected could attend and speak directly to them.  I am glad to hear they had been at the last meeting and hope it was useful.   Both Sundon and Chalton have benefitted from support of the Police Meteor Team – which I heard was active again.
As I understood it, it is illegal and dangerous driving that has resulted in these accidents and a Police presence would be needed to capture those responsible.   While it is an HGV route, I doubt that road humps, chicanes or traffic lights will ever be considered.   All things I have raised with Highways Officers.  The land by the A6 roundabout is used as a compound for Highways works vehicles.
Highways have many times been asked by me and the PC, to find a solution to the issues in Streatley.   As you know the solution proffered has always been the Link Road.
I recall Sylvia had also got Traffic Management and the Highways Exec Member – Cllr Delgarno – seeking one too. Nothing came of that unfortunately.
As you know,  Highways Officers tried fairly recently,  at my request, to see if they could come up with a scheme, but had to say that regretfully nothing could be done and they considered that there wasn’t an available resolution.   Land ownership would be a factor in any plans.
You can request a ‘walkabout’ with Highways anytime, to take a look at issues of concern with members of the PC.
I feel that many options have been looked at and rejected over the 5+ years I have been a Ward Cllr.  If someone has what they consider to be a workable plan we haven’t looked at before, or one you feel was rejected but could work, I am more than willing to take it up for you.
I have made some suggestions re parking for Church Road that a resident was pursuing – but I don’t think anything came out of that as yet either,  as I have heard nothing since.
Mary
